Welcome back to Term 2
This term our topic is Traders and Raiders - we will be investigating the Anglo-saxon and Viking periods in History. We are sharing Beowulf by Michael Murpurgo as our class text. We will be creating posters, job adverts and many other pieces of writing through this term. In Science we are learning about electricity.
In maths we will be looking at multiplication and division in our first few weeks, then building onto fractions, decimals and percentages. Times tables have really improved; a large percentage of the class now get 144/144 in our weekly Whizz tests; which is fab. We must ensure that we know all our times tables as soon as possible and then we can simply work on our speed of recall. We will continue weekly times table tests each Thursday. We focused on our Lower Key Stage spelling list in Term 1 and now most people are heading closer to the Year 5/6 list. Our spelling tests will be on a Monday (see attached lists on our opening page of our Class Pages). Times tables and spellings will continue to be a focus for our homework this term https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button and https://www.multiplication.com/games/all-games will help with your times table practice. We are also setting weekly maths or English homework on TEAMS.
We are currently doing PE on a Thursday with our Sports Coach, just after playtime. Our focus is Rugby.
Accelerated Reading is completed daily and our books are now kept in school. We can test in school whenever we have finished our book. Reading books and Home/school contact books are being kept in school for the moment but we are recording your books and your quiz results in these. Please continue to read at home for pleasure, as this will help your writing and spelling no ends.
We have completed some great work so far, including some art work and poetry on Remembrance Day (see below).
