Government Funding for Primary Schools PE and Sport
The aim of the 'ring fenced' funding is to improve the Physical Education (PE) and Sports Programmes offered by primary schools.
At St. James' Church of England Primary Academy, we aim to establish a sporting culture that enables and encourages all children to play and enjoy sport. We also provide opportunities for those who show particular talent and flair in order for them to excel.
Purpose of the Funding
Schools must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, though how we do this, remains our decision.
We aim to use the funding:
Pe aims to -
- To increase engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity. The focus of this will be in taught PE lessons, break and lunch activities, PE clubs and travel to and from school.
- To introduce a curriculum that rotates a variety of sports each term that covers all different types of sport – adapt overview and plans to incorporate broader range of sports.
- To enhance student experience in sports through mini youth games and multi skills activities. PE through specialised sports venues. Give opportunities to children to attend MYG and Multi sports clubs with specialist PE teacher.
- To increase teamwork, competitions to increase community spirit and sportsmanship. Implement inter-school sports competitions to expose students to activities not previously covered in PE lessons.
- To increasing participation in sport for marginalised groups, developing a targeted program for marginalised groups, focusing on inclusive, adapted sports activities run by sports specialist at lunch and after school.
- To identify marginalised groups within school and create opportunities to experience sports in a safe, inclusive environment.
We recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of our children. We believe that an innovative, varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all our pupils.
